Purpose

"I cry out to God Most High, to God who will fulfill his purpose for me." Psalm 57:2 While fishing with a guide recently, I saw a tool on his boat that I hadn't seen before. It had an 18 inch handle with an "s" shaped metal end attached to the top. Once the fish started to fill the cooler, I saw him take the tool run it down the line to the hook and give it a little flip with his wrist. Immediately, the hook was dislodged and the fish flopped into the cooler. It was a perfectly designed tool to accomplish the purpose for which he made it. Today's verse speaks to purpose as well. Specifically, mine and yours. I don't know about you, but I for one am extremely thankful that we were both made on purpose as well as to fulfill purposes. Accidents? Nope. Random chance? Nope. Dreams and destinies? Yep. It's important to note that the confidence of having God fulfill his purposes for us is found in the one who is crying out to him. Him being "...

Plans and Purposes

"The Lord Almighty has sworn this oath: 'It will all happen as I have planned. It will come about according to my purposes. I will break the Assyrians when they are in Israel; I will trample them on my mountains. My people will no longer be their slaves. I have a plan for the whole earth, for my mighty power reaches throughout the world. The Lord Almighty has spoken -- who can change his plans? When his hand moves, who can stop him?'" Isaiah 14:24-27 I had every intention of following through. The weather was great. The lawn was long. The mowers were ready to roll. Nothing but green lights. It was go time! However, after some lengthy conversations, after meetings I had failed to take into account and after the setting of the sun, go time came and went. My plan was blown up. My checklist item that read, "Mow the yard," was still on the list. Have you ever been there? In our verses for the day, God reveals that this breakdown between plan and reality is one h...

Advanced Planning

“When Esther was taken to King Xerxes at the royal palace in early winter of the seventh year of his reign, the king loved her more than any of the other young women. He was so delighted with her that he set the royal crown on her head and declared her queen instead of Vashti. To celebrate the occasion, he gave a banquet in Esther's honor for all his princes and servants, giving generous gifts to everyone and declaring a public festival for the provinces."  Esther  2:16-18 Every once in awhile my retirement planner friend and I get together for lunch. Primarily, we catch up with all that is going on in our lives. We give updates on our families. We share the latest about the ministries, in which, we're involved, and basically just enjoy one another's company. We do, however, make sure somewhere during our time together that we review the retirement plan. We look at what's going on, make changes when we need to and be sure we're both on the same page. Our verses...

Strong and Courageous

Dear Church Family, As most of you know by now, our church building was vandalized on Sunday night.  Like all of you, I have gone through a roller coaster of emotions from being annoyed, to feeling violated, to being angry and everywhere in between.  How could someone stand under the lit cross on the front of our building and hurl rocks to smash our windows?  I'm afraid I don't have any answers for you nor can we ask those responsible as that is still unknown at this point in time.  In praying through this sad event, God has reminded me of some truths that you may find helpful in the face of this crime against us. Our mission as a church is: To lead people into a growing relationship with Jesus.  Any church family who is sincerely committed to that mission not only in words, but also in deeds, is a church family who needs to expect and be prepared for any and all attacks from the enemy.  Just to be clear, our enemy as the scriptures say, is not fle...
