“For the word of God is full of living power. It is sharper than the sharpest knife, cutting deep into our innermost thoughts and desires. It exposes us for what we are. Nothing in all creation can hide from him. Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes. This is the God whom we must explain all that we have done."  Hebrews  4:12-13 I immediately knew something wasn't quite right. Unfortunately, the crystal clear pool water provided me no safe harbor from the reality that my swimsuit was now around my ankles. I moved quickly to rectify the situation, but I was pretty sure some of the poolside conversation revolved around the briefly appearing full moon in the middle of a hot, sunny day. Being exposed is typically a situation that most of us look to avoid. Given that reality, verses like the ones for today can be more than a little troubling ... "innermost thoughts", "exposes", "nothing can hide", "naked and exposed"... Yikes!!! Add...

"You made me; you created me.  Now give me the sense to follow your commands." Psalm 119:73 My dad was meticulous in giving me instructions regarding gun safety.  I, however, wasn't quite as meticulous in putting those instructions into practice.  As a kid, when dad and I were on a rabbit hunt, I neglected to follow the rule regarding keeping your finger away from the trigger until shooting time.  I tripped over some railroad tracks, reached out to catch myself with the safety off and my finger on the trigger.  The barrel was so close to my head when the gun went off, that all I could hear for the next several minutes was ringing.  Thankfully, my foolish failure to follow the instructions didn't cost me or my dad our lives, but it sure was a powerful lesson. The Psalmist here points out something so obvious we simply say, "Duh."  However, he still needed to say it, because he and we needed to hear it.  God made us.  Life was his idea.  H...

Each had earned their doctorates in their particular area of expertise. My immediate sense of intellectual smallness grew through the course of the introductions. "Hello Dr." ... "Dr." ... "Nice to meet you Dr." And then there was me. The Sesame Street tune starting running through my mind ... "One of these things is not like the other."
