Faith Crisis

"But Elijah said to her, 'Don't be afraid! Go ahead and cook that last meal, but bake me a little loaf of bread first. Afterward there will be enough food for you and your son. For this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: There will always be plenty of flour and oil left in your containers until the time when the Lord sends rain and the crops grow again!" I Kings 17:13-14

Many times in our lives, my wife and I have looked at each other completely befuddled at what we were hearing God tell us to do.  Many indicators at the time pointed to this "word from God" being an unrealistic, not to mention "unwise" move.  From financial decisions, to professional decisions, to child rearing decisions, to adoption, to giving, to relational decisions and everything in between, we've looked up to heaven and said, "God, are you sure?"

All throughout the Bible, we see people brought to a similar place in their lives again and again.  It's a place Henry Blackaby calls - "A Crisis of Faith".  The widow and her son in this story were brought to just such a place.  Would she give away her dwindling food supply to God's prophet trusting God to provide more or would she hold on to it in fear?  I encourage you to continue reading to see what happens.

If we are a Christ follower today, there will be a steady stream of these moments in our lives.  Each one provides an incredible opportunity for personal growth and more importantly, growth for the Kingdom.  I would guess many of us reading this today are in such a moment.  The weight of God's guiding hand is growing heavier each day as he has been directing us to take a step of faith in some area of our life and we are resisting.  This world is desperately short of mountain movers, the courageous who truly believe that God is as big as he says he is.  Are you and I one of them?

Grace and Peace,

Tom
