Treasure

"Don't store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them, and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be." Matthew 6:19-21  Kids have a special way of getting to the heart of the matter. Many years ago, while driving through an extremely affluent neighborhood, my daughter asked her mom, "Is that somebody's house?" "Yes it is," her mother replied. She then followed up very quickly with another question, "Mom, are we poor?" "No honey," her mom answered. "We're rich in everything that really matters." I imagine Jesus smiling when he heard that conversation taking place. Jesus taught repeatedly to keep our eyes and attention on those things that are eternal - him, people, his word and his kingdom. Willing

"All whose hearts were stirred and whose spirits were moved came and brought their sacred offerings to the Lord. They brought all the materials needed for the tabernacle, for the performance of it's rituals, and for the sacred garments. Both men and women came, all whose hearts were willing. I don't know for sure what's done with that money. I've never taken the time to research the money trail. Our daughter was treated the best so I choose to simply assume the best and give. The love we were shown causes me to check my cynicism at the door. The people of Israel were invited to giv...

"The man who finds a wife finds a treasure and receives favor from the Lord." Proverbs 18:22 Like many young boys growing up, I absolutely loved collecting sports cards. Baseball, football, basketball, it didn't matter. I would spend hours sorting them, counting them, and looking up their values in the sports card value books. I remember very vividly the anticipation of opening up the packs, hoping to get that big name player or the special limited edition cards. I put my favorites in plastic pages or cases in order to protect them and to show the other kids. My friends and I would negotiate trades that at times would take days to complete. I still have some of my cardboard treasures in a box in a closet. I don't think about them very often these days, much less get them out and sort through them. I might get around to re-engaging with my collection someday, but for now, it simply collects dust. In our verse for the day, the author directs our attention t...
