Yes

“because Jesus Christ, the Son of God, never wavers between yes and no. He is the one whom Timothy, Silas, and I preached to you, and he is the divine Yes - God's affirmation. For all of God's promises have been fulfilled in him. That is why we say "Amen" when we give glory to God through Christ." I Corinthians 1:19-20

We've all heard the expression, "Their word is as good as gold." In other words, this person keeps their promises. They honor their commitments. They have a track record of reliability. Most of us want that kind of a reputation. We'll go to great lengths to build it and protect it. And yet, on occasion we have failed to deliver on our word. Thankfully, most people will be patient and understanding until it becomes habitual.

In our verses for the day, Paul emphatically points to the faithful promise keeper, the "Yes" of God who is a person - Jesus. He is the living embodiment of the fulfillment of God's promises. Every promise. Every time. In the person of Jesus, the divine has once and for all established 100% reliability. We can search anywhere and everywhere else, but there is only one solid foundation upon which to build our lives. It's not a religion, a philosophy, or wishful thinking. It's a person. His name is Jesus.

The reality of the divine Yes provides us with the unparalleled privilege of living with a sure and steadfast hope. We don't need to live a wobbly life. When we sense ourselves faltering, that's our signal to run immediately into the promises of God. They lead us to their fulfillment - Jesus, who fills us with strength and courage. A time is coming or is already here in our lives where all we will have left is the promise, the person, the divine Yes and it's there we'll discover that he is all we've ever needed.
